Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Recent developments in optical imaging have revolutionized our understanding of biological systems, offering unprecedented insights into cellular structures, dynamics, and functions. This Special Issue of J.Imaging focuses on highlighting cutting-edge advancements in optical imaging techniques and methodologies.

Super-resolution microscopy, including techniques such as STED, DNA-PAINT, and Single-Molecule Localization Microscopy (SMLM), has pushed the boundaries of spatial resolution, enabling the visualization of subcellular structures with nanometer-scale precision. Spatial omics approaches integrate high-resolution imaging with molecular profiling, facilitating the spatial mapping of biomolecules within cellular environments.

Time-lapse imaging and spatio-temporal imaging capture dynamic processes in real-time, providing valuable insights into cellular behaviors and interactions. Multi-photon microscopy and deep tissue imaging techniques penetrate thick samples, allowing for in vivo studies of biological processes.

Organoids, three-dimensional cell culture models, offer physiological relevance for studying developmental processes and disease mechanisms. Label-free imaging techniques, adaptive optics, and multiplex imaging methodologies further enhance the capabilities of optical imaging, preserving native cellular environments and enabling simultaneous visualization of multiple targets.

SMART microscopy focuses on high-resolution, multiplexed imaging, while event-driven microscopy selectively captures dynamic events in real-time. These emerging technologies provide novel insights into complex biological phenomena, offering new avenues for understanding cellular processes and disease mechanisms.

This Special Issue welcomes contributions that showcase recent developments in optical imaging, including novel imaging technologies, applications across various biological systems, and computational methods for data analysis. Research articles, reviews, and methodological advancements are invited for submission to highlight the latest innovations in the field of optical imaging and their implications for advancing our understanding of biology and medicine.

By bringing together diverse perspectives and cutting-edge research in optical imaging, this Special Issue aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and drive further advancements in the field. Contributions from researchers across disciplines are encouraged to contribute to this exciting endeavor in advancing optical imaging techniques and applications.
