Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on 11 March 2020, with most of the highly revered national healthcare systems being caught underprepared. The administration of quality and safe anesthesia was quite challenging in this circumstance due to the general lack of experience with recent epidemics. Airway manipulations and intubations, which are common during anesthesia procedures, may increasingly expose anesthesia providers and intensive care unit team members to the virus. This has led to an increased risk profile of anesthesia for both patients and operative teams. To mitigate these risks, anesthesia providers have made changes to their practice. The challenges involve caring for anesthesiology and procedural patients, protecting anesthesiology clinicians and reducing the change of disease spread. This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive review of these challenges by collecting papers from an expert panel of authors.
