About Journal of Ageing and Longevity

Aims

Journal of Ageing and Longevity (JAL ISSN 2673-9259) is a unique multidisciplinary, scientific, peer-reviewed, open access journal that seeks to unite research on ageing, longevity and gerontology. This journal aims to take a comprehensive and integrative approach to understanding the biological, psychological, clinical, social and environmental factors affecting successful and healthy ageing. It will draw on numerous scientific disciplines such as gerontology, biology, psychology, immunology, physiology, epidemiology and sociology to address the critical and contemporary issues related to ageing and longevity. JAL is devoted to providing high-quality research including original articles, critical reviews, case reports and communications from scholars around the world.

Scope

Journal of Ageing and Longevity (JAL) covers every topic related to ageing, longevity, successful ageing and older adult health. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

Biology of ageing:

  • Cellular and genetic mechanisms in the ageing process;
  • Immunological aspects of ageing.

Neurological aspects of ageing:

  • Cognitive functioning and cognitive impairment in ageing;
  • Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias;
  • Memory loss in ageing.

Medical aspects of ageing:

  • Geriatric medicine (cardiogeriatrics, rheumatology, rehabilitation, and psychogeriatrics);
  • Geriatric oncology;
  • Chronic diseases and multimorbidity.

Physical aspects and issues of ageing:

  • Physical health, gait, and posture in older adults;
  • Physical activity, exercise, and function in older adults;
  • Physical decline related to ageing, frailty, falls, and fractures;
  • Nutrition and ageing.

Psychological aspects of ageing:

  • Mental health and wellbeing in older adults;
  • Psychological issues in older adults, such as depression and anxiety.

Social gerontology:

  • Social relationships and social participation in old age, social exclusion, isolation and loneliness, and elder abuse and neglect;
  • Work in later life and retirement;
  • Ageing and social policies;
  • Ageism and prejudice.

Public health and epidemiology of ageing:

  • Health communication, education, and literacy in the ageing population;
  • Health inequalities, minorities, and ageing in LMICs;
  • Healthspan- and longevity-related research;
  • Lifespan research and health-related behaviours among older adults.

Healthcare in ageing:

  • Health services for older adults;
  • Gerontological nursing;
  • Long-term care;
  • Palliative and end-of-life care.

Gerontechnology:

  • Assistive technologies for disabled older adults;
  • Wearable and monitoring devices for the health, mobility, leisure, work, and communication of older adults;
  • mHealth and eHealth solutions for older adults;
  • Artificial intelligence and longevity.
