Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Global estimates of the world population project accelerated increases in the number of older adults over the next three decades. More importantly, there is substantial heterogeneity observed in the wellbeing and health outcomes of older adults that does not occur at random. Factors that contribute to stark differences in patterns of mental, physical, and cognitive health of older adults have significant implications for individuals, families, and societies. Practical and sustainable strategies, interventions, and evidence-based policies that help us to better address the multidimensional determinants of healthy aging across various sociodemographic groups and countries to reduce global aging inequalities are underdeveloped. Efforts to identify and target social, structural, and political determinants that are stressors as well as resilience factors influencing the trajectory of healthy aging across diverse populations are needed. The purpose of this Special Issue is to gain critical insight to address gaps in knowledge and innovation and develop a more nuanced approach to studying, tackling, and reducing aging health inequalities.
