Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Forestry operations involve a range of complex and challenging tasks, from harvesting timber to managing forest ecosystems. In recent years, there has been growing interest in the application of cognitive ergonomics principles to the design of forestry equipment, software, and decision support systems. This Special Issue of Forests invites original research articles, review articles, and case studies that explore the intersection of cognitive ergonomics and forestry, with a focus on new insights and future directions.

Topics of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:

  • The design and evaluation of forestry equipment from a cognitive ergonomics perspective, including chainsaws, harvesters, skidders, and other equipment used in forestry operations.
  • The development and evaluation of software and decision support systems that incorporate cognitive ergonomics principles to improve decision making in forestry operations.
  • The role of cognitive ergonomics in addressing safety concerns in forestry operations, including issues related to operator fatigue, distraction, and other human factors.
  • The use of wearable technologies to monitor operator performance and provide real-time feedback on ergonomic factors such as posture and fatigue.
  • The application of machine learning and artificial intelligence to forestry operations, including the development of predictive models that can anticipate operator needs and adapt to their individual cognitive abilities and preferences.

We welcome submissions from researchers and practitioners in forestry, cognitive ergonomics, human factors, and related fields. All papers will be subject to a rigorous peer-review process. Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal's online submission system.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Forests is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
