2013 Forests was indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)/Web of Science.
Forests received its first Impact Factor (1.094), ranked 25/60 (Q2) in "Forestry", the highest ranking open access journal.
2014 Forests adopted a monthly publication schedule.
Forests received its Impact Factor (2013) of 1.139.
2015 Forests received its Impact Factor (2014) of 1.449.
2016 Forests received its Impact Factor (2015) of 1.583.
2017 Forests received its Impact Factor (2016) of 1.951.
Forests instituted a Section Editor-In-Chief structure to spread all submissions to four sections.
Forests established the following sections:
  • Forest Ecology and Management;
  • Forest Ecophysiology and Biology;
  • Forest Economics, Policy, and Social Science;
  • Forest Inventory, Modeling and Remote Sensing.
2018 Forests received its Impact Factor (2017) of 1.956.
2019 Forests received its Impact Factor (2018) of 2.116.
Forests established the following section:
  • Wood Science.
2020 Forests received its Impact Factor (2019) of 2.221, ranked 17/68 (Q1) in "Forestry".
Forests established the following section:
  • Genetics and Molecular Biology.
2021 Forests received its Impact Factor (2020) of 2.634, ranked 13/67 (Q1) in "Forestry".
Forests established the following sections:

  • Forest Operations and Engineering.
2022 Forests received its Impact Factor (2021) of 3.282, ranked 14/69 (Q1) in "Forestry".
