Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, "Wood Chemistry—Advanced Technology and Techniques", is dedicated to the forefront of research on the chemical aspects of wood and lignocellulosic materials. It aims to gather pioneering studies, reviews, and technical advancements that push the boundaries of how we understand, utilize, and transform wood through chemistry. As the world seeks sustainable alternatives to fossil-based materials and processes, the role of wood chemistry has never been more pivotal. This Special Issue will serve as a platform for showcasing innovative approaches in the modification, analysis, and application of wood materials, contributing to sustainability, material science, and the bioeconomy.

Main Topics:

Potential topics can include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Advanced analytical techniques in wood chemistry: cutting-edge methods for characterizing wood composition, structure, and properties.
  • Lignin chemistry and valorization: novel approaches to lignin extraction, modification, and application in creating value-added products.
  • Cellulose and hemicellulose innovations: advances in the processing and application of cellulose and hemicellulose, including nanocellulose and new biomaterials.
  • Wood modification techniques: chemical treatments and processes that enhance the durability, resistance, and functionality of wood.
  • Enzymatic processes in wood chemistry: the role of enzymes in wood processing and modification, including biotechnological advancements.
  • Sustainable chemicals and materials from wood: the development of sustainable chemicals, materials, and energy derived from wood, contributing to circular economy concepts.
  • Environmental impact and life cycle analysis of wood-based products: studies on the environmental benefits, impacts, and life cycle analysis of wood and wood-derived products.
  • Bio-based adhesives and resins from wood: innovation in the development of bio-based adhesives, resins, and coatings for wood and wood products.

This Special Issue seeks contributions from researchers, academicians, and industry professionals who are exploring the chemistry of wood in the context of advanced technologies and techniques. By sharing these insights, we aim to foster collaboration and inspire further research that will lead to innovative solutions in wood science, contributing to a more sustainable future.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Forests is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
