Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Mangroves, a component of coastal oceans, offer immense ecological and ecosystem services; they influence regional and global climatic processes, blue carbon storage, the stabilization of substratum (e.g., sediment and soil) and support the sustenance of blue economy on a global scale. The soil substratum of mangroves is colonized by a highly biodiverse biota including microbiomes, in addition to mangrove vegetation. The strong interplay between mangrove microbiome and other biological components drives the high productivity and cycling of key elements such as carbon and nitrogen. In this Special Issue we seek to bring together scientists from the Global South and North investigating the structure and functions of mangrove microbiomes that have colonized substrata such as soil; the interaction between microbiome and mangrove vegetation in soil; the role of microbiome in the stabilization of mangrove soil; interaction between microbiome and mangrove vegetation as a substratum (e.g., pneumatophores); the biological complexity of mangrove microbiome in soil or sediment, including their potential role in benthic–pelagic coupling along intertidal zones; the importance of microbiome, including microeukaryotes, in shaping the geochemistry of soil or sediment substrata or in sediment porewater; as well as the role of microbiome in improving soil health and mangrove restoration. Contributions or perspectives that emphasize the nexus between mangrove microbiome, blue carbon and blue economy are particularly welcome for this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Forests is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
