Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

During the past few decades, humankind has witnessed a sharp rise in the incidence of cancer cases worldwide. Moreover, based on the data from GLOBOCAN 2020, the global cancer burden is expected to further increase by almost 50% by 2040, meaning that 28.4 million people will be diagnosed with cancer in 2040. These dreadful changes have occurred in parallel to the global climate warming. Indeed, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, limiting human-induced warming to 1.5 °C above preindustrial levels is already beyond reach. Therefore, the current Special Issue is devoted to analyzing the possible impact of climate change on the rise of cancer cases, considering many different aspects, both direct and more indirect in nature. In this way, articles about changes in the incidence of specific cancer types (e.g., melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer, as well as other malignancies) depending on climate warming will be included in this collection, unraveling also the possible molecular mechanisms underlying such associations. In addition, papers focused on more indirect effects of climatic changes on complex carcinogenesis processes are welcomed, including aspects related to alterations of dietary patterns and the composition of various food products, but also environmental pollution. Last but not least, a challenging question about the potential necessity to adjust the current cancer treatment and diagnostic strategies according to climatic changes is also raised for future discussion.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
