Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to participate in our upcoming Special Issue, entitled “Unraveling the Complexities of Aging: Inflammation, Immunosenescence, and Aging" Aging represents a universal biological process characterized by diverse physiological transformations over time. A prominent change is the occurrence of immunosenescence within the immune system. This phenomenon encompasses innate and adaptive immunity changes and is intricately linked to persistent, low-grade inflammation. This chronic inflammation is a hallmark of immunosenescence. It is a significant predisposing factor for a range of age-related conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, cardiovascular ailments, autoimmune disorders, and heightened vulnerability to infections like COVID-19.

The core objective of our Special Issue is to unravel the underlying mechanisms governing immunosenescence, explore its complex interplay with the aging process and emphasize its critical role in the onset and progression of age-related diseases.

We cordially invite submissions of original research articles and comprehensive reviews that traverse the multifaceted realm of immunosenescence and inflammation. Potential research areas encompass, but are not restricted to, the following:

  • Elucidation of the molecular mechanisms underpinning immunosenescence.
  • Examination of the impact of immunosenescence on age-related diseases.
  • Exploration of cellular senescence and its contribution to inflammation and aging.
  • Proposal of strategies to modulate immunosenescence and promote healthy aging.
  • Analysis of lifestyle factors (such as diet and exercise) and their influence on the aging immune system.

We look forward to receiving your contributions, which promise to be a substantial contribution to the field of aging research.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biology is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
