Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to collect high-quality review papers from many aspects of ecology. Ecology includes processes that take place at different levels of biological organization (population, community, and ecosystem) with a specific focus on biodiversity. Many research questions remain unresolved or should be the focus of future research. For example, the effects of the major anthropogenic drivers of global change (e.g., climate change, biological invasions, land use change, and nitrogen deposition) on species and ecosystems, the effects of biodiversity mechanisms on ecosystem functioning, the effectiveness and connectivity of protected areas under current or future climate, the effectiveness of different restoration methods for restoring degraded ecosystems, or the implementation of ecological strategies that use nature-based solutions to make our environment more sustainable are just some of the of top-priority issues. We encourage researchers to contribute review papers that highlight the latest developments in their research area, or to invite relevant experts and colleagues to do so. We sincerely welcome your submissions to this Special Issue in Biology on any of the subject areas listed below.

  • Functional ecology;
  • Trait-based ecology;
  • Population ecology;
  • Community ecology;
  • Ecosystem ecology;
  • Landscape ecology;
  • Evolutionary ecology;
  • Applied ecology;
  • Conservation ecology;
  • Global change ecology;
  • Ecological sustainability.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Review articles are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biology is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
