Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a Special Issue focusing on cancer-on-chip models and their recent advancements in fabrication, mathematical modelling, integration, potential applications, and their transformative impact on cancer research and drug development.

This Special Issue encompasses a wide range of topics, including but not limited to the following:

  1. Mimicking tumor microenvironments: this category covers efforts to replicate the intricate microenvironments of tumours, incorporating three-dimensional (3D) cell cultures, and enhancing the complexity of in vivo models.
  2. Personalized medicine and patient-specific models: we invite contributions related to patient-specific cancer-on-chip models that utilize patient-derived cells, assess new or combination therapy plans on these models, and predict suitable treatment strategies.
  3. Drug screening and development: this category focuses on high-throughput drug screening within these platforms.
  4. Integration of multi-omics technologies: we welcome submissions exploring the incorporation of genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics in these platforms, aiming to gain a better understanding of genetic mutations, signalling pathways, the tumour microenvironment, and the development of more effective treatment strategies.
  5. Real-time monitoring and imaging: contributions related to the integration of advanced imaging techniques and sensors, facilitating real-time monitoring of cellular responses, and providing insights into the temporal aspects of cancer progression and drug interactions are highly encouraged.
  6. Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence in cancer-on-chip models: This category focuses on the integration and application of machine learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques within cancer-on-chip models. Contributions should explore how ML and AI can enhance real-time monitoring, predictive modelling, and data-driven decision making, ultimately advancing our understanding of cancer progression, drug interactions, and treatment strategies. Submissions in this category should highlight the transformative potential of ML and AI in the field of cancer-on-chip research.

We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions to this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Bioengineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
