Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Prosthetic rehabilitation is indicated in many cases in which surgery alone does not allow the restoration of function related to acquired or congenital jaw defects. In fact, these prostheses replace missing parts of soft and hard tissues and restore functions such as speech, chewing, and swallowing. Furthermore, it is possible to improve the aesthetic and psychosocial conditions altered by the defect.

To date, it is possible to manufacture both mandibular and maxillary prostheses through a digital workflow by means of CAD-CAM technologies and new materials.

Nevertheless, for these prostheses, all the aspects of some technologies, such as intraoral and laboratory scanners, cone beam computed tomography, and additive or subtractive manufacturing systems, have not been thoroughly clarified yet.

The aim of the present Special Issue is to shed light on the clinical performance of prosthetic rehabilitation, the chemical–physical characteristics of the prosthetic materials, and their processing procedures. Additionally, this SI aims to clarify all the aspects concerning digital technologies in these kinds of prostheses, from the digitization of jaws to the manufacturing procedures of CAD-CAM prostheses.
