Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Additive manufacturing (AM) has revolutionized manufacturing across a variety of industries, enabling the creation of complex and precise components. However, to fully harness the potential of AM, further refinement through post-processing methods is often necessary. This Special Issue of the journal Applied Sciences is dedicated to exploring the comprehensive landscape of additive manufacturing and the diverse spectrum of post-treatments applicable to all AM materials, including polymers, metals, and more.

We invite contributions that cover a wide spectrum of subjects related to AM and post-processing, including, but not limited to:

  • Novel post-processing techniques: innovative approaches for enhancing the quality, durability, and functionality of AM-produced parts.
  • Surface quality enhancement: research on methods to improve the surface finish of AM components, particularly for applications where aesthetics and smoothness are critical.
  • Material refinement: explorations into post-processing techniques that enhance the material properties, such as strength, ductility, or thermal conductivity, of AM materials.
  • Quality assurance: studies on quality control and assurance processes that ensure AM components meet stringent industry standards.
  • Integration into manufacturing workflows: investigations into how AM technologies can be seamlessly integrated into existing manufacturing workflows, offering cost-effective solutions and increased efficiency.

We welcome researchers, engineers, and industry professionals from both academia and the corporate sector to contribute their expertise and insights. This Special Issue provides a platform to showcase your research, share best practices, and foster collaboration within the rapidly evolving field of additive manufacturing and its vital counterpart, post-processing.

The primary goals of this Special Issue are to:

  • Facilitate the exchange of knowledge between researchers, practitioners, and industry leaders.
  • Advance the understanding of AM's potential and the pivotal role of post-processing in realizing this potential.
  • Inspire innovations that will shape the future of manufacturing in diverse industries, from aerospace to healthcare.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
