Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Nowadays, edge intelligence is an emerging area that focuses on the integration of edge networks and artificial intelligence (AI). Orienting to the demand of massive data transmission and large-scale processing generated from mobile devices, edge network can provide more timely and efficient communication and computation services compared to the traditional centralized framework. Meanwhile, AI has been introduced in different network elements, and also considered as a key enabler to decide how to manage, configure, and optimize the network under incomplete information conditions or real-time dynamic scenarios. Basically, there are two main topics for the edge intelligence area: AI for edge, which utilizes AI technology in providing strategies, predicting traffic, and optimizing performances for edge network; and AI on edge, which is involved in deep neural network (DNN) deployment, DNN partitioning, edge resource management for AI tasks, and so on.

This Special Issue on “Resource Optimizations in Edge Intelligence” welcomes submissions of original research work on theory and techniques of edge intelligence. The issue specially targets cutting-edge and novel approaches for resource optimizations in edge networks by applying AI-based methods, and also focuses on a broad thematic range of works covering network resource management and optimization in a variety of intelligent paradigms.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • AI-based physical layer optimizations in edge networks;
  • AI-based new multiple access techniques in edge networks;
  • Intelligent resource optimizations in mobile edge computing networks;
  • Intelligent resource optimizations in V2X/D2D/IoT networks;
  • Intelligent resource optimizations in aerial communication and computing;
  • Resource optimizations for DNN training/inference;
  • Cross-layer resource optimizations for AI tasks;
  • Application case studies on edge intelligence.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
