Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue, “New Insights into Marine Geology”, covers a broad spectrum of topics on the subject of the marine geology, inviting authors to publish marine geological studies both from Mediterranean areas and extra-Mediterranean areas. In particular, I invite seismo-stratigraphic studies, collecting new research in the field of seismic and sequence stratigraphy in coastal and marine environments. I also welcome tephrostratigraphic studies performed on gravity and piston cores, aimed at individuating volcanic stratigraphic markers in marine successions. Sedimentological and stratigraphic studies on quaternary marine deposits of delta, shelf and slope environs fit well with the proposed issues. Geochemical proxies would enrich previous methods, giving indications on pollutants in coastal areas and corresponding threats. Marine geological mapping and IODP expeditions results will also be suitable for this volume. The examination of marine hazards in coastal and marine sectors will result as a further elaboration of the methods proposed in this Special Issue. Review papers, including full reviews of specific topics in the field of marine geology, are also suitable for this Special Issue, including paleontological, biostratigraphic and palaeoecological studies.
