Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Spectroscopic techniques have been widely employed to evaluate specific chemical information about the composition and structure of various materials. In recent years, the development and increasing application of spectroscopic methods in the characterization of novel materials has been continuously observed. Spectroscopy is a suitable tool for polymers and composite materials analysis; it is versatile, fast, almost nondestructive, and in many cases, noninvasive, in addition to requiring minimum sample preparation and manipulation. Moreover, the spectroscopic system coupled with imaging and microscopic techniques can provide information about the microstructure of polymers and the distribution of components in composite at micro- or even nanoscales. The information on molecular structure, interactions, conformations, mobility, etc., as results of spectroscopic analyses facilitates the understanding of the macroscopic aspects of the materials.

This upcoming Special Issue, "Spectroscopic Characterization of Polymers and Composite Materials", will focus on the latest information on applications of all the diverse branches of spectroscopy, including, but not limited to, mass, ICP, NMR, EPR, NQR, UV-Vis, XRD, EDX, FTIR, NIR and Raman spectroscopy, in polymers and composite materials characterization. This subject encompasses different aspects and scopes, including an understanding of the formation, function, and stability of polymers and composite materials based on spectroscopic data. In this Special Issue, research results of the multifunctional polymer-based materials (composites, coatings, and adhesives), stimuli-responsive materials, smart materials, new developments and designs of polymers and composites, and polymer nanocomposites may be included.

I would like to invite you to submit or recommend original research articles, communications, or review papers for this Special Issue of Applied Sciences that aims to show recent developments and innovative applications in polymers and composite materials research. Articles should feature novelty and high-quality spectroscopic data and analysis, and may be related to fundamental as well as highly applied research.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
