Dear Colleagues,
Researchers have been working on developing structures and materials that can withstand extreme dynamic loading conditions, such as accident impact, explosions, crashworthiness, and so on. Protective structures and materials often utilize advanced composites or incorporate special fibers, coatings, or geometries to enhance their strength and durability. They can be applied in a wide range of industries and contexts, including, but not limited to, the following fields:
Impact-resistant materials: Structures and materials designed to resist impacts can be used in various applications, including anti-collision facilities, aerospace, automotive, and infrastructure. Innovations in materials, such as composite laminates, lightweight sandwich structures, or energy absorbers, help disperse the impact forces, reducing the risk of injury or damage.
Blast-resistant structures: Buildings and structures located in high-risk areas, such as military installations or industrial sites, can be designed to withstand explosions or blasts. Advances in materials and structural engineering techniques allow for the construction of blast-resistant walls, windows, and roofs that can minimize damage and protect occupants. Especially on the high-performance concrete and the corresponding composite structures.
Earthquake-resistant structures: In regions prone to earthquakes, buildings can be constructed or retrofitted with specialized materials and designs to withstand seismic forces. This includes using reinforced concrete, dampers, and base isolators to minimize structural damage and protect occupants.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): PPE includes helmets, goggles, gloves, masks, and other gear designed to protect individuals from physical, chemical, or biological hazards. Advancements in materials have made PPE more lightweight, comfortable, and effective in providing protection.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
