Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Embedded systems are pervasive in our daily lives. They are not stand-alone anymore but networked. With advances in devices and network technologies, new vertical applications are arising, with potential societal changes. For example, 5G networks, IoT, and wireless sensors allow a new era of applications in industry 4.0, healthcare, agriculture, smart cities, etc.
The development and deployment of networked embedded systems pose new engineering challenges. New tools and approaches are needed for the (software) engineering of current (real-time) cyber-physical systems of systems. For instance, verification and validation of such systems to ensure safety and security are necessary.
This Special Issue will publish high-quality, original research papers on networked embedded systems.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
