Dear Colleagues,

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is pivotal in ensuring the structural integrity and safety of buildings, enabling engineers to virtually simulate and assess building responses to various static and dynamic loads, environmental conditions like wind, seismic events, temperature changes, and design modifications throughout the building's lifecycle. This Special Issue aims to showcase the transformative role FEA has played in revolutionizing the field of structural engineering by incorporating cutting-edge modeling techniques, advanced material constitutive laws and properties, and efficient computational methodologies harnessing high-performance computing. It emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, integrating specialized knowledge from diverse fields such as materials science, data science, optimization, uncertainty quantification, and machine learning, to provide more accurate, efficient, and holistic assessments of building structures. Both research articles and case studies demonstrating practical applications are encouraged for this Special Issue to highlight the real-world impact and value addition of FEA in comprehensively evaluating and improving the safety, sustainability, resilience, constructability, and cost-effectiveness of buildings. Contributions addressing current challenges and charting the path for the future research and development of FEA tools and workflows are sought to realize the full potential of simulation-driven design in tackling the complexity of modern structural engineering problems across various scales.
