Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Orthopedics and implant infections are a growing concern. Staphylococcus aureus, one of the main protagonists responsible for related infections, was identified as a human commensal but also as a dangerous pathogen. Due to its growing antibiotic resistance, it is necessary to find numerous antibacterial agents, including new antibiotics, and new strategies to treat these biofilm-associated infections. Different antibiotic combinations are also an effective option. Antibiotics must reach the site of infection both in sufficient concentrations and time in order to be effective. Selection of the ideal antibiotic tissue pharmacokinetic profile depends on the efficacy of the particular antibiotic (e.g., time- and concentration-dependent effects). This Special Issue seeks manuscript submissions to further our understanding of the antimicrobial treatment of orthopedic and related prosthetic infections.
