Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Johne’s disease (JD), caused by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP), is a significant problem in livestock and its control and prevention is a priority to reduce economic losses and health risks. Most of the research carried out on this disease has been on cattle. The control of disease is dependent on the accuracy and timeliness of diagnosis, and also on farm management practices, including nutrition, housing, and breeding. Sheep and goats are important livestock species, both in developed and developing countries. Therefore, new approaches for selective breeding of disease-resistant animals and improved diagnosis using biomarkers can improve the health and welfare of these species. This issue will be focused on paratuberculosis (PT) in sheep and goats, a disease caused by the Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis, and new molecular approaches to its diagnosis and disease control.
