Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear authors,

you choose important topic for research especially in pandemic COIVD 19. Results of plagiarism analysis are satisfactory 14.2%, However, there is some concerns you have to address in your manuscript.

Title - please add research design to the title

Abstract - start abstract with short background. Report the main findings and be specific in conclusion. What is the message from you research, professional benefit! Keywords should be in alphabetical order.

Introduction - The introduction is too long, I suggest to reduce first half. In other half you have to be concise is there similar research in Banglades or neighbor countries, or in other part of the world. And try to better describe what new knowledge this study brings to international science. For international audience it is important to know what is contribution to science.  Sentence line 129-130 is not logical.

Methodology is well presented

Results - nice presented. I am not sure that you need factor analysis at the end of result section.

Discussion - start discussion with study aim and then highlite the main finding.

Conclusion - please be specific with you recommendations. Whats professional contribution of the study, what changes do you suggest.

Title - please add research design to the title

Answer-Research design has been added to the title.

Abstract - start abstract with short background. Report the main findings and be specific in conclusion. What is the message from you research, professional benefit! Keywords should be in alphabetical order.

Answer- A short background has been added in the abstract and the main findings have been specified in the conclusion. Keywords have been placed in alphabetical order.

Introduction - The introduction is too long, I suggest to reduce first half. In other half you have to be concise is there similar research in Bangladesh or neighbor countries, or in other part of the world. And try to better describe what new knowledge this study brings to international science. For international audience it is important to know what is contribution to science.  Sentence line 129-130 is not logical.
Answer- The introduction has been updated and shortened. Also, it has been revised to address your comments and recommendation.

Methodology is well presented
Answer- Thank you so much for the scholarly comment.

Results - nice presented. I am not sure that you need factor analysis at the end of result section.

Answer- The factor analysis was exploratory factor analysis has been performed to determine the major approaches of coping adopted by the population during the COVID-19 pandemic. The relationship tests pretended the relationship among variables, and the factor analysis predicted the pattern of coping.

Discussion - start discussion with study aim and then highlite the main finding.
Answer- Revised according to your recommendations.
Conclusion - please be specific with you recommendations. What’s professional contribution of the study, what changes do you suggest.

Answer- Revised according to your scholarly comment.

Thank you so much for your time and effort in contributing to the manuscript.

Hello,

Please explain for your sample: the level of precision, the level of confidence or risk and the degree of variability of the measured attributes.

The study presents problems related to the representativeness of the sample: distribution by regions

Please include in the study a table with the distribution by regions of the population of Bangladesh.

Please find my specific comments below:

The study explores the coping strategies used by Bangladeshi citizens during the major wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The topic has also been studied by other authors. References to other studies are sufficient and clarify developments in the field very well.

The methodology is standard and well laid out.

Through a systematic approach, the author tries to identify and argue the most common key survival strategies.

The authors do not mention in the conclusions what is new in the study. They limit themselves to conclusions related to the subject analysed, without placing the results in a wider context.

The objectives of the study are explicit. The conclusions are well formulated and correspond to the content of the scientific analyses carried out, but are not placed in a wider scientific context.

Problematic issues are presented that can support future studies.

The bibliography is sufficiently developed.

From an ethical point of view, the authors mention the limitations of the research.

 Good luck

Please explain for your sample: the level of precision, the level of confidence or risk, and the degree of variability of the measured attributes.

Answer- We have explained the attributes on page 5, section 2.2 past paragraph as “The sample size calculation was estimated to be 1088, with a 99.9% confidence interval, 50% of expected frequency, 5% margin of error, and 1.0 design effect.”

The study presents problems related to the representativeness of the sample: distribution by regions

Answer- The representativeness of samples was confirmed by sample size calculation as described by participants “The study explores the coping strategies used by Bangladeshi citizens during the major wave of the COVID-19 pandemic Adult participants, ages 18 and above, were invited to take part in the “Brief-COPE Inventory”, [18] from October 2020 to January 2021. Participants were recruited via open call and personal communication and were approached for informed consent for face-to-face interviews with face-to-face completion of the Brief-COPE [32], in addition to providing basic demographic information for the study.

Respondent cluster estimates were divided into 8 administrative divisions of the country and the sample size was calculated using “EPI INFO” version 7.4.2.0 developed by the CDC in the US. The sample size calculation was estimated to be 1088, with a 99.9% confidence interval, 50% of expected frequency, 5% margin of error, and 1.0 design effect. For 8 geographical clusters, a sample size of 136 for each cluster.”

We have ensured to collect a minimum of 136 samples from each division to ensure representative sampling.

Please include in the study a table with the distribution by regions of the population of Bangladesh.

Answer- in figure-2, We labeled the number of respondents from each division. We made the entered country clustered by eight divisions and ensured the collection of 136 samples from each cluster as per the sample size calculation. The numbers are stated in figure-2 so we do not wish to repeat it as a table.

The study presents problems related to the representativeness of the sample: distribution by region

Answer- We had a specific population of interest from a least developed Southeast Asian country. Future studies on collective coping strategies over a continent or a region can express a wider scientific context.

 Good luck

Answer- Thank you so much.

Dear authors,

Congratulations on this significant work.

Minor comment would be:

- Adding  a section on stress and coping theory/framework that is being adopted in this study
