The manuscript describes the evaluation of the recently developed enhanced Fire Weather Index (FWIe) over the Iberian Peninsula and assesses its performance - especially as an early warning index for extreme fire weather due to atmospheric instability. The paper furthermore presents a decadal climatological analysis of the FWI, FWIe and Continuous Haines Index of atmospheric instability. The reviewer wishes to congratulate the authors to their work. It is not often that a paper can be accepted in present form, as is the case here, where all the boxes in the review form can be ticked at the right place.
