Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

line 160 correct described

Figure 2 seems to be redundant as majority of data are already included in the text

Table 4 give more detailed and concrete data if available for all referenced studies (72, 34, 83, 81)

line 452 - rhizobia are regarded also as PGPB

line 463 - this is unlikely that fungicides would be harmful to bacteria (rhizobia) - if so then particular fungicides should be mentioned

There are few patented technologies for example on coating by biologicals. The authors seem to be focusing entirely on scientific data, however, in some countries in Latin America the seed coating of soybean has been commercial routine for many years - these examples should be also mentioned that some of the practices associated with seed treatments by biologicals are at commercial base already. Certainly this is a future prospect for supporting bio based agriculture.

Reviewer 2 Report

This is a very nice summary about the seed-coating technology. My only suggestion is that since the authors mentioned the abiotic stresses which may

affect the germination, how about biotic stresses? I suggest the authors to provide summary of the biotic stresses after the abiotic stresses.

Author Response

We would like to thank Reviewer #2 for positive feedback and thoughtful suggestion on our manuscript.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Point 1: This is a very nice summary about the seed-coating technology. My only suggestion is that since the authors mentioned the abiotic stresses which may affect the germination, how about biotic stresses? I suggest the authors to provide summary of the biotic stresses after the abiotic stresses.

Response 1: We believe that Reviewer #2 missed Page 13 Line 432: Section 4.4. Plant Protectants and Inoculants included the biotic stresses.

Reviewer 3 Report

The review paper entitled “Modern seed technology: seed coating delivery systems for enhancing seed and crop performance” by Irfan Afzal et al. summarize the methods and materials for seed coating and the benefits of seed coating, such as enhancing growth of seedlings and protecting from abiotic or biotic stresses.

Overall, the paper is well written and it may be useful in this field.

I found one minor point.

P7 L272 the numbering of subtitle, correct 3-6. Comparison of ,,,,., not 3-5.
