Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this paper, a tower mechanical fault classification method based on SOMTE and CSH-SVM improved algorithm is proposed.

Unfortunately, there are more aspects which create confusions for the reader. Among them:

1. The Figures 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9 are incomplete and should be completed. The significance of the two axes should be inserted. It is not clear how these figures were obtained. Fig.5, 10 and 11 are also unclear.

2. The formulas (1)-(5) are not justified. It is not evident how the equations were obtained. It is not clear if these are taken from the literature or are derived by the authors.

3. The colored label associated to the fig.4 does not concord with the presented figure and it is mostly useless as is presented.

4. The authors should clearly mention in which aspect their paper improves the literature and where they introduced novel results, comparing to the existing literature, in which sense their paper is adding to the literature, what is the practical application of the presented results and what are the limitations of this study.

5. The usefulness and practical applicability of the results should be stated more clearly pointing out the major contribution at the end of introduction.

6. Some revisions addressing data analysis are highly required. The authors should interpret the results and use the plots as supports for conclusions. It would be better for the reader if the authors would show clearer how their findings are useful.

Some citation format in the text can be improved. For example, Xin Bo Huang et al, usually is written as Huang et al., will not use full name or abbreviate name.

What is the purpose of Tower Mechanical Structure Modeling?

What are the inputs for the failure classification? How to justify the failure for each class?
