Broad comments relate to the experimental data shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3 and Table 1. The methods for obtaining these data should be indicated if they are obtained in this work. Or make a link to the sources if the data is taken from the literature.

The term “soil density” should be replaced by “soil bulk density”.

The authors have undertaken an extensive experimental study on quantification and evolution of particle characteristics of saturated silt under 1 freeze-thaw cycles. The following specific comments are provided to further refine the manuscript.

(1) The abstract needs to be revised. It is very confusing in the present form as many sentences are merged together. Make the abstract clearer.

(2) The Figures are well presented.

(3) Figure 7 and 8 seems irrelevant and does not contribute any thing new to existing knowledge. Could be removed.

(4) The paper has some formatting issues. Please check the entirely paper carefully and improve on the sentence structures and grammar.
