Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper concerns the interesting approach of a prediction model for water consumption in Beijing under the background of climate change. Remarks: Add some details about polynomial simulation method presented in the section 2.2.5. It would be a good idea to provide a scheme for used method and approach. The basis of statistics presented in the sectopn of methodology could be presented in the form of the appendix. Line 211: Figure 3. Variations of relative humidity departure in Beijing, and line 283: Figure 6. Regression analysis of climatic domestic water consumption and mean temperature  the linear function was used, what about the orhers functions (correlation)? Line 231: what are the reasons of the drop of water consumption for industrial purpose around 1998 presented in the Figure 4. Water consumption in Beijing. Give some details about providing a theoretical basis of developed model for later policy development. In the conclusions a list of the main findings and interpretation and practical recommendations should be presented.

General Comments:

The research article is designed to study the “Response of domestic water in Beijing to climate change”.

The authors used the CMIP6 multi-model climate change scenario data, the climate change and the domestic water consumption, to estimate the water requirements with respect to the increase in temperature due to climate change for the city Beijing for 2035 and 2050.

The authors used the same reparative paragraph in the abstract, introduction, and conclusion of the article, which need revisions

The article has some Grammar and English language mistakes therefore, I would recommend to proof read the article from an English native speaker.

The discrepancies in the article are mentioned below to improve its quality.

Revisions:

The introduction section needs revisions as per journal guidelines. You have to write above problem statement, objective, novelty, methodology and results of the study. Only mention the key result of your study.

The introduction section also needs revisions; you have used same text in the introduction, from L77-94, which is already mentioned in the abstract of the article. By remove those lines you article introduction section is very limited and it requires extensive study about literature review.

You have mentioned some equations in the results section. Kindly move those equations in the methodology section and only discuss your results in the result section.

The discussion section also need extensive revisions and discuss your detailed results with proper citations.

In the conclusion section, you have mentioned the same text again, see L373-390, which is already discussed in the abstract of the article and you have repeated that text in the introduction as well. Kindly revise your conclusion of the article and discuss the summary of your study.

Dear authors

Please note these points:

-You can use The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) website for downloading the latest scenarios by legal institutes here is the link:

https://esgf-node.llnl.gov/projects/cmip6/

-Explain how you downscaled the CMIP6 GCMs outputs.

-Discuss the resolution of your GCMs outputs.

-By making the daily data to monthly, you can visualize your results better.

-Please read the instructions for authors carefully for this journal.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper concerns the interesting approach of a prediction model for water consumption in Beijing under the background of climate change. In order to cope with the adverse effects of climate change, there is a need to build a prediction model for water consumption in Beijing under the background of climate change. Remarks: Remarks: Line 86: The choice of reference should be supplemented with respect to the risk analysis methods of water supply, which have been developed (e.g. Ref.: Assessment Model Application of Water Supply System Management In Crisis Situations, Global Nest Journal. 2014, 16‎, 893-900. https://doi.org/10.30955/gnj.001414], Failure Prediction in Water Supply System-Current Issues. In Theory and Engineering of Complex Systems and Dependability; Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing; Zamojski, W., Mazurkiewicz, J., Sugier, J., Walkowiak, T., Kacprzyk, J., Eds.; Springer International Publishing: Cham, Switzerland, 2015; Volume 365, pp. 351–358 https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-19216-1_33, and they were proven effective to achieve improved safety and reliability. Line 467: Give some details about supporting decision-making on water use. In the conclusions it is very important to provide the future scope of the research performed to make a strong impact on the readers on the research performed.

Dear authors

  1. In the references section, (numbers 11 and 13) and (numbers 27 and 38) are the same.
  2. The ensemble models that you used are for CMIP5, not CMIP6. Also, it can be seen from your references (number 9) that similar studies used CMIP5 ensemble models.

3. You did not answer my points in the last review correctly :

  • You respond that you used the NWAI-WG for downscaling, but you did not mention such an important issue in the manuscript. The NWAI-WG downscaled CMIP5 ensemble models, not CMIP6.
  • You did not read the instructions for authors carefully.

For all the above, I would recommend that the study is not considered for publication in the Journal of Water.
