Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

General:

This paper is nicely drafted and easy to read. However, the review needs a more recent literature review in the introduction and under different sections.

Abstract:

Please conclude with the future implications of this study and how it will be helpful for researchers.

Introduction

Please also highlight water stress and irrigation and physiological aspects of water stress: Transpiration, and gas exchange, and compare with different crops. (For example, for soybean: Jha, P. K., Kumar, S. N., & Ines, A. V. (2018). Responses of soybean to water stress and supplemental irrigation in upper Indo-Gangetic plain: Field experiment and modeling approach. Field crops research, 219, 76-86.). The introduction needs more recent literature support, small paragraphs should be merged into larger ones and the the last para should mention the future implications of this study.

Line 242, 341

Discussion: I would suggest the authors have a more supported discussion with references considering the main point: The limitations of the method and considerations when to apply the studied methodology and then the potential next steps or further investigation to address these limitations.

Conclusion: Please highlight about future implications and challenges of this study.

References: Please double-check the style of references and if missing one

Moderate English correction required

Response 1: Most of the articles used in the different sections of the review paper are recent dating from 2020 to 2022

Abstract:

Point 2: Please conclude with the future implications of this study and how it will be helpful for researchers.

Response 2: A conclusion with the future implications of this study was proposed as you recommended

Introduction:

Point 3: Please also highlight water stress and irrigation and physiological aspects of water stress: Transpiration, and gas exchange, and compare with different crops. The introduction needs more recent literature support, small paragraphs should be merged into larger ones and the last para should mention the future implications of this study.

Response 3: This work specifically concerns rice cultivation for which different water conservation technologies are increasingly applied, so we do not find it necessary to mention other crops. Most of the articles used in introduction of the review paper are recent dating from 2020 to 2022. A conclusion with the future implications of this study was proposed as you recommended

Point 4: Line 166: reference

Response 4: Reference of table 1

Point 5: Line 242, 341

Response 6: Reference of tables 2&3

Point 6: Discussion: I would suggest the authors have a more supported discussion with references considering the main point: The limitations of the method and considerations when to apply the studied methodology and then the potential next steps or further investigation to address these limitations.

Response 6: This work is a review and any specific method has been adopted, so no limitation of the method

Point 7: Conclusion: Please highlight about future implications and challenges of this study.

Response 7: The future implications of this study was highlighted in the conclusion

Point 8: References: Please double-check the style of references and if missing one

Response 9: English was improved

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript entitled ‘’ Water management for sustainable irrigation in rice (Oryza sa-2 tiva L.) production: A Review’’ well reviewed the published papers in very special issue of rice production, water consumption. The manuscript started with a briefly introduction and then nicely continued with some useful subsections in water managements concepts. The conclusion is fine. The whole paper is written in good English. However there are some mistyping. I suggest to check it one more time.
