A New Year of Catalysts

Welcome to a new year of Catalysts, an international, peer-reviewed open access journal. From time to time, I like to write about the status of the journal: what milestones have been reached, what special issues will be coming out, what conferences we will partner with, etc. As we turn to the New Year, this seems like an opportune time to provide an update on Catalysts.

Catalysts continues to grow in terms of both the number of papers and the number of times those papers are viewed. In 2015, 122 papers were published (102 original research papers and 20 review articles), far surpassing our previous high of 59 papers published in 2013. The number of times those papers have been viewed has increased exponentially (see Figure 1), a reflection of both the increase in papers published and Catalysts’ growing reputation.

In 2015, we published a number of special issues, including issues on “Electrocatalysis in Fuel Cells”, “Catalytic Removal of Volatile Organic Compounds”, and “Feature Papers to Celebrate the Landmarks of Catalysts”. Each of these issues was highly successful, with outstanding contributions from some of the leading researchers in catalysts. We also welcomed six new members to our Editorial Board: Prof. Dr. Jean-François Lamonier (Université Lille1 Sciences et Technologies), Prof. Dr. Kei Manabe (University of Shizuoka), Dr. Maarten B.J. Roeffaers (K.U.Leuven), Dr. Minhua Shao (The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology), Prof. Dr. Carl Redshaw (The University of Hull) and Dr. Andreas Martin (Leibniz-Institute for Catalysis). I look forward to working with these outstanding individuals to advance Catalysts in the coming years.

2016 promises to be an outstanding year as well. We are launching 16 new special issues and one topical collection. These include such important topics as: “Enzyme Catalysis” (Editor: David D. Boehr), “Rational Synthesis of Supported Bimetallic Catalysts” (Editor: John R. Regalbuto), “Automotive Emission Control Catalysts” (Editors: Jae-Soon Choi and Peter Kočí), and “Zeolite Catalysis” (Editor: Andreas Martin). Please consider submitting a manuscript to one of these special issues.

In 2016, we will also announce the initial Best Paper award winners celebrating outstanding contributions to Catalysts. One award will be given for best original research paper and one for best review. The papers with the highest number of citations in 2012 are being considered for this award. A committee of Editorial Board members will select the two papers for these awards. This year, we will also continue to promote our journal by hosting a booth at the International Congress on Catalysis in Beijing, China. If you are at this conference, please feel free to stop by our booth to meet myself of another representative from Catalysts.
