Dear Colleagues,
The increasing pace of urbanization is one of the key sources of pressures that cities and urban space, to use a more general term, are exposed to today. From a different angle, advances in sophisticated information and communication technology (ICT) create the promise that many of the already existing and emerging challenges will be alleviated. The objective of this Special Issue is to encourage research and subsequent debate around the question of how advances in ICT may assist all stakeholders, including decision-makers, businesses, and citizens in the process of making urban space more user-friendly, thus enhancing the wellbeing of city inhabitants on the one hand, and contributing to urban space resilience and sustainability on the other.
The Editors of this Special Issue encourage submissions addressing, but not limited to, the following topics and issues:
- Smart cities research: new concepts, new approaches, new developments;
- Smart cities services and applications: supply and demand, issues, developments;
- Smart cities: regulatory frameworks and the delivery of the best quality of services and applications;
- Smart cities and smart villages research: issues and developments;
- Smart cities and migration: issues, challenges, opportunities;
- Smart cities: democracy, governance, representation, participation;
- Smart cities: leisure, tourism, art, and culture.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Urban Science is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
