Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The global architectural landscape is undergoing a transformative shift towards sustainability, driven by the urgent need to address climate change and enhance environmental stewardship, the global architectural landscape is undergoing a transformative shift towards sustainability. Buildings account for a substantial portion of energy consumption and play, therefore, a pivotal role in this paradigm shift. The scientific exploration of energy efficiency in buildings has become imperative, as it not only aligns with environmental goals but also holds the key to creating resilient, energy-efficient urban environments. This Special Issue seeks to explore the frontiers of research within this dynamic field, aiming to unravel innovative solutions, technological advancements, and interdisciplinary approaches that can redefine the future of sustainable architecture.

The overarching aim of this Special Issue is to assemble a collection of cutting-edge research that propels the agenda of energy-efficient practices within the field of sustainable architecture. By focusing on the intricate interplays between architectural design, technology, and environmental sustainability, the Special Issue seeks to contribute substantively to the global discourse on sustainable urban development and, in doing so, it aligns seamlessly with the journal's commitment to disseminating impactful research that addresses contemporary challenges in energy and sustainability. The envisioned outcome is a compendium of scholarly works that not only advances knowledge but also informs and inspires transformative architectural practices.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to):

  1. Innovative architectural design for energy efficiency;
  2. Renewable energy integration;
  3. Smart building technologies;
  4. Advanced building envelope solutions;
  5. Sustainable materials and construction practices;
  6. Urban planning for energy efficiency;
  7. Life cycle assessment in architecture;
  8. Phase change energy system;
  9. Sustainable Energy Transition for Existing Buildings.

By addressing these themes, we aim to offer a comprehensive perspective on the multifaceted aspects of energy efficiency in architecture, providing valuable insights for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.

The proposed Special Issue is well aligned with the journal's commitment to advancing knowledge in sustainable energy and architecture. We believe it will attract high-quality contributions, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and driving forward the discourse on sustainable architecture and energy efficiency in buildings.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
