Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

There is an increasing interest within the scientific community in understanding the drivers and outcomes of sustainable innovations and strategies. Exacerbating conditions of the climate crisis are urging governments worldwide to accelerate the transition toward green and circular economies by means of various supporting measures. Fast and effective business solutions are required to switch course. Despite the relevance of sustainable innovations and strategies, most businesses still operate in traditional sectors with traditional business models. This inertia is caused by multiple factors, such as a lack of groundbreaking innovations able to generate new dominant designs, the absence of measures to understand circular business models, high switching costs for consumers, the relative infancy of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for supply chains, and the absence of alternative and feasible energetic pathways.

Based on the above premises, this Special Issue aims to explore the obstacles, determinants, and outcomes of sustainable innovations and strategies.

Examples of possible research questions are as follows:

  1. What are the perks and the flaws of circular business models?
  2. How can we measure circularity?
  3. How can AI help or impact this transition?
  4. What are the main characteristics of green supply chains?
  5. What impacts the success of sustainable strategies?
  6. What are the main obstacles/drivers to green and/or sustainable innovation?
  7. How do sustainable business model innovations affect the competitiveness of firms in the short and long term?

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Green innovation.
  • Sustainable innovation.
  • Sustainable strategies.
  • Green supply chains.
  • Circular business models.
  • Business model innovations.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
