Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The intensifying impacts of climate change on communities from local to global scales have forced scholars and policymakers to find innovative solutions to build resilience across systems. Smart city theory and practices building on the advancements in technologies and transformative urban planning and design approaches offer a viable approach to climate-resilient cities. Clarifying and solidifying the linkages between smart, sustainable, and resilient cities is critical for advancing a more adaptable society and environment. Consistent with the aims of Sustainability, this Special Issue encourages researchers to publish and share with an international and cross-disciplinary audience their exploratory, computational, and theoretical findings that could advance knowledge of smart approaches to shape sustainable and resilient cities.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Urban science and smart cities;
  • Climate resilience and adaptation;
  • Application of digital technologies, big data, and AI in urban management;
  • Interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches to resilient cities;
  • Urban planning and design for smart–sustainable–resilient communities;
  • Geographic information science for sustainability and resilience;
  • Mapping vulnerabilities and risks across social and environmental systems;
  • Case studies and implementation of smart city policies;
  • Resilience and sustainability education;
  • Housing and real estate planning for smart–sustainable–resilient cities.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
