Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The primary factor that causes problems related to Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is attributed to pollution sources that release not only gases but also particles into indoor air, aggravated by poor ventilation conditions which make it impossible to promote indoor sources of emission dilution and to remove indoor air pollutants from the affected room. Deficient hygrothermal conditions related to high temperature and humidity levels can drastically aggravate the indoor concentrations of some specific pollutants. The impact of indoor concentrations of radon, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), particulate matter, and other pollutants on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) highlights the urgency in developing new, straightforward technologies for indoor assessment and mitigation. Articles that concern technological solutions involving the use of low-cost sensors for IAQ monitoring, smart sensors, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for IAQ assessment, new IT platforms for indoor radon management, new ventilation techniques for IAQ improvement, and innovative construction solutions for indoor remediation are all most welcome. Several previous studies have been conducted in previous decades by various national scientific, public and private entities concerning the effects of the aforementioned sources of air pollution on indoor environments, and all agree that indoor radon exposure poses a true public health risk. Therefore, this Special Issue aims to contribute to the development and implementation of innovative and intelligent technology solutions that contribute to improving Indoor Air Quality in healthy and sustainable buildings, in close alignment with the global strategies, namely that defined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
