Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue is aimed to collect papers that provide new evidence of the benefits of physical activity for sustainable development. As physical activity is confirmed to be related to almost every UNESCO Sustainability Goal, there is a broad field of research open for different perspectives, such as psychological, sociological, public health, physiological, educational, and others. Papers highlighting potential or synergies between physical activity and sustainability in any cross-sectional, longitudinal, experimental studies are welcomed, as well as reviews and papers on research methods. Although physical activity is acknowledged as an essential actor of sustainable development, gaps remain on how and what sustainable development problems physical activity could solve. We invite you to present your recent analysis on links between physical activity and sustainable development goals, such as good health and well-being, quality education, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, and others in many aspects and in different populations.

Further, in order for research to make an impact for further sustainable development, to provide evidence-based recommendations for policymakers and implementers, to develop interventions, there is a need for a deeper and broader understanding of factors that are predicting sustainability-related physical activity itself on the individual, interpersonal, organizational, or policy levels.

We encourage you to contribute research for consideration for publication in Sustainability, an international open access journal that provides an advanced forum for research findings in areas related to sustainability and sustainable development.
