Dear Colleagues,
As problems inherent to environmental, economic and social sustainability are growing progressively more complex and contradictory, the role played by innovation, in terms of the technologies, processes and products of production, is increasingly fundamental to efforts to make manufacturing more sustainable. However, for innovation in sustainable and green manufacturing to become common practice, and in order to be able to evaluate the results, even during its course, in an iterative manner, it must develop to be more pragmatic.
This Special Issue aims to develop, gather together and discuss the approaches, methods and tools that support innovation in sustainable and green manufacturing—and the evaluation of the results obtained—across various fields. Research and experimental works related to systematic innovation in sustainable processes, technologies and products are welcome, as are approaches to the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of their sustainability. A particular focus is on prospective LCA methodologies, to evaluate and to improve the sustainability of the innovation process before its outputs enter the market. A secondary focus is on the search for knowledge, particularly on patent analysis, that supports both the innovation process itself and the prospective LCA methodologies.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
