Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Population growth, human activity, and climate change are disrupting weather patterns, exacerbating water scarcity, and contaminating water supplies. Governments around the world face an array of water policy options for managing water scarcity, droughts, and floods; improving water quality; and protecting ecosystems and human health. Water utilities, primary industries and communities, require solutions that promote flexibility, resilience, and sustainability in water systems. In this context, the concept of fit-for-purpose water management has emerged as a strategic approach to address these challenges by optimizing the use of water resources according to specific needs and contexts. We invite contributions that address, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Fit-for-purpose water reuse and recycling technologies;
  • Integrated water resource management for sustainable development;
  • Climate change adaptation and resilience in aquatic systems;
  • Socio-economic implications of fit-for-purpose water initiatives;
  • Policy frameworks and governance structures for promoting fit-for-purpose water practices;
  • Case studies and practical experiences in implementing fit-for-purpose water solutions.

This Special Issue will provide fresh perspectives and insights on these topics and serve as a valuable resource for environmental scientists, water sector industry members, and policy makers interested in advancing the field of water resources management and sustainability.
