Dear Colleagues,
It is our pleasure to extend this invitation to potentially interested researchers in the field of bio-circular economy of urban and rural areas. With the growth of population and living standards, the contradiction between the demand for resources and the accumulation of urban and rural solid waste has become increasingly prominent, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the saying goes, garbage is the misplaced resource and it would be useful if solid waste can be transformed into high value-added products by biorefinery, such as organic fertilizer, clean energy, feed, and food. This Special Issue aims to promote a sustainable bio-economy in urban and rural areas. Research articles or reviews on applied technologies and mechanisms, as well as government policies, public opinion analysis, and life cycle assessment, are welcome.
The Special Issue “Biorefinery Promotes Bio-Circular Economy of Urban and Rural Areas” wishes to create a discussion on this topic. It includes, but is not limited to, the following relevant themes:
- Novel bioproducts and technologies for solid waste management;
- Process optimization with high-values and high yields, e.g., biogas, fermented feed, composting and mushrooms;
- Novel contamination remediation and carbon neutrality for solid waste management;
- Cleaner products, e.g., hydrogen;
- Utilization of innovative feedstock for downstream production, e.g., levoglucosan;
- Public opinion analysis for relative strategy;
- Life cycle assessment.
