Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Today, sustainable development is an essential topic for both developed and developing countries; thus, to achieve sustainable development, politicians and decision makers must first follow sustainable construction. One of the avenues that can be used to achieve sustainable construction is the use of sustainable materials.

On the other hand, in order to achieve sustainable development, the requirements of the current generation must be met without compromising the ability to meet the requirements of the next generation. The requirements of the next generation cannot be predicted, but the negative environmental effects of development as well as the quality of materials can be optimized. In order to reduce environmental issues and social inequality, the use of raw materials, fossil energy, air pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions must be decreased. Furthermore, renewable energy and recycled materials can meet the criteria.

Stronger materials, with regard to mechanical strength, durability against weathering, and environmental problems, can meet sustainable development because they cannot only meet safety, health, security, adaptivity, and other social indicators, but they can also decrease maintenance costs. In brief, the social indicators are too numerous and some of the unknown parts of sustainability studies.

This Special Issue focuses on, but is not limited to, research on the following topics:

-Sustainability evaluation of building materials for use in building and other construction projects, such as conductive concrete in roads and highways.

-Sustainable evaluation with which to design and develop industrial buildings.

-Finding novel knowledge in social and technical indicators of building materials for sustainability evaluation.

-The mechanical and environmental features of building materials, especially for recycled building materials.

-The effect of reusing waste on the environmental and physical behavior of building materials.

-Environmental evaluation of building materials.

-Optimizing the use of raw materials and energy in material production.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
