Modern Day Social Work Education, Training and Practices

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue invites the submission of education curriculum models, as well as training and practice related to modern day social work in the respective home country of the author(s). The paper must incorporate the education mission and practice framework of the US Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS, 2022) and the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW). Authors are free to choose one of two areas for the article: (1) If the article is on the education and training of students, the authors must discuss how the respective country is using an evidence-based curriculum to train the future generation of social workers. The educational curriculum may include governmental bylaws, mandates, and conditions. (2) If the article is on best practices, the article must include both the EPAS (2022) evidence-based practice and information on how the practice model is consistent with IFSW’s education, ethics, and the United Nations’s mission regarding human services and social services assistance. This means that the authors must clearly distinguish the differences between human services and social services systems in their respective country. It has been considered that developing countries may only have human services and not specifically social services. In this case, it is fine too. 

Articles can be based on research findings or essays but must be fully supported by the current literature and show, more importantly, how evidence-based, strength-based, and empowerment approaches are incorporated into the knowledge, skills, and value of social student learners or social workers. Articles that contain insufficient literature references will not be forwarded for review.

Please submit your proposals and any questions to the Special Issue editor by 15 April 2024. Notification of acceptance will be provided by 30 April 2024. Final papers are due on 1 September 2024 for peer review.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Social Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
