Dear Colleagues,
In contemporary society, sustainable development presumes the responsible use of resources by means of reduced consumption and improvements in efficiency that are also supported and encouraged by technological advancements. Nowadays, water is a resource that is under particular stress and that acts as a causal nexus of prolonged periods of droughts/climate change, limited water supply infrastructures, and unbalanced water production and consumption patterns.
Around the world, a large share of the population is not consuming enough water to meet their basic needs, whilst almost one fifth live in areas experiencing water scarcity, and almost one quarter face economic water shortage. In order to ensure access to a sufficient amount of water and to ensure that this water is good quality, responsible consumption as well as recycling and comprehensive water infrastructures are needed at both the industrial and at individual consumer levels.
In this regard, this Special Issue aims to assess how society has begun to transition to a more sustainable water consumption model, a model that accounts for both the reduction and the recycling/reuse perspective. Hence, we invite researchers to submit original papers that address subjects such as (but not limited to): comprehensive water recycling infrastructures; water resilience challenges in urban settlements; modern technologies for efficient water use; water supply chain sustainability; and water recycling applications.
