Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), localization is one of the most important technologies since it plays a critical role in both military and civilization fields, such as in military surveillance, habitat monitoring, the Internet of things and wildlife tracking. To meet the requirements of low cost, low power, selectivity and high accuracy simultaneously, millimeter-wave/terahertz, massive/large-scale sensor node, efficient multi-sensor fusion and magnitude-only sensor techniques have been investigated in WSNs in recent years. However, these techniques not only bring competitive solutions and/or possible candidates but also bring many challenges, for example: the challenging problems of localization in complex propagation channel or non-line-of-sight (NLOS) transmission scenarios due to obstruction, high-efficiency NLOS ranging error mitigation, and localization with magnitude-only output data of sensors, etc. This Special Issue invites authors from academia and industry to contribute high-quality original research on the topic of “Intelligent Localization and Its Implementation in Various Applications”, with submissions expected to offer clear and novel findings in algorithm design or engineering applications. The scope of this Special Issue includes theoretical and experimental studies that contribute to novel developments in fundamental research and its applications. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Acoustic localization for WSNs
  • Localization for underwater WSNs
  • Localization in IoT-enabled WSNs
  • Artificial-intelligence-based localization
  • Machine learning methods for localization in WSNs
  • Cooperative localization (including unmanned aerial vehicles assisted localization and reconfigurable intelligent surface-assisted localization)
  • Localization for large-scale WSNs
  • Non-coherent localization in WSNs
  • Multi-sensor fusion for localization in WSNs
  • Localization for intelligent transportation systems
  • Localization applications for various scenarios of WSNs

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
