Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

There has been a continuous growth and demand for high-speed data connectivity due to the introduction of mobile and smart devices, the Industry 4.0 revolution, the Internet of Things (IoT) and so on. In order to meet the increasing demand, there has been significant interest and research activities in optical wireless communication (OWC) for ultrashort to long-haul and earth-to-satellite communication due to the availability of a large bandwidth in ultraviolet, visible and infrared wavelengths. As the application of OWC diversifies, so do the challenges, and hence, unique solutions need to be developed to mitigate these challenges. In this Special Issue, we accept papers on, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Free-space visible light communication/Li-Fi;
  • Infrared wireless communication/free-space optical communication;
  • Ultraviolet wireless communication;
  • Underwater visible light communication;
  • Advanced optical modulation schemes;
  • Optical channel modelling and mitigation techniques;
  • Internet-of-Light;
  • Vehicle-to-vehcile optical wireless communication;
  • Error correction coding and equalisation;
  • Localisation and positioning;
  • Multicarrier and multiple access systems;
  • Spatial diversity/optical MIMO;
  • Optical satellite communication;
  • Optical wireless communication for smart cities and medical applications;
  • Machine-to-machine links using optical wireless.

Full length original technical articles are solicited with novel contributions within the optical communication domain without restriction. Tutorial and survey papers are also welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
