Nanoelectronic materials and elements are of specific significance for enhancement when establishing novel electronic digital and analog circuits and devices. Various materials based on metal oxides as titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, niobium oxide, metal chalcogenides, carbon nanofibers, silicon nanoparticles, nanocomposite substances, polymers, and many others are being successfully applied in the fabrication of digital and analog CMOS integrated circuits, sensors, and other nanoelectronic schemes. In the last years, many research institutions around the world have attempted to innovate and optimize ultra-high density integrated chips by applying new and promising nanoelectronic elements and technologies. Some examples include low-power GaN UV light-emitting diodes, semiconductor photocatalysts, silicon nanowired chemical sensors, and memristors—a comparatively new circuit element with good memory and switching properties, low power consumption, and good compatibility with CMOS integrated circuits technologies. They are mainly based on transition metal oxides and other substances such as halcogenides, organic compounds, spintronics, and others. They are applicable in various electronic devices, such as in high-density non-volatile memory crossbars, logic schemes, neural networks, oscillators, and filters, to name but a few.
The design of new and complex electronic schemes based on new nanoelectronic elements requires appropriate software environment, e.g., ORCAD PSPICE, LTSPICE, and CADENCE, and fast-operating models of the elements. In this sense, the generation and optimization of suitable models is a key point in the engineering of electronic devices. The main goal of this Special Issue is to collect new research works on novel nanoelectronic elements, the corresponding schemes, and their analysis and design. Example topics of the proposed contributions include but are not limited to:
- Novel materials and technologies for fabrication of integrated chips;
- Novel nanoelectronic elements;
- CMOS nanoelectronic circuits—modeling and analysis;
- Logic gates and schematics based on nanoelectronic elements;
- Reconfigurable analog and digital circuits and devices;
- Artificial intelligence circuits and systems based on novel nanoelectronic elements.
