Dear Colleagues,
The identification, synthesis, and development of new or existing chemical entities suitable for therapeutic use represent a big challenge to the pharmaceutical industry. The optimization of the structure and, hence, properties of molecules to improve biological interactions allows the creation of more selective medicines that display limited side effects. Furthermore, to modulate the bioavailability, metabolism, toxicity, and delivery of new chemical agents aiming at specific biological properties, nanotechnological systems can be used as advantageous alternatives. The application of nanotechnology in medicinal chemistry is based on natural biological phenomena to produce precise solutions for disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. This Special Issue is dedicated to publishing innovative and relevant research in the field of development, characterization, and biological activity of promising medicinal drugs delivered into nanosystems. Thus, the Special Issue will consider, but not limit its range to, the contributions of drug candidates to nanotechnology including high-throughput nanosystem design strategies and structure–activity relationship elucidation to improve the therapeutic index of drug molecules.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
