Dear Colleagues,
In recent years, natural products are receiving increasing interest because of the fact that they are a pool of metabolites with high structural diversity and have a wide range of biological properties. Antioxidants are capable of protecting the human body from free radicals and oxygen reactive species, as well as to reduce the adverse effects of oxidative stress on human health, resulting in the prevention or delay of the progression of various diseases (e.g., cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes, and cancer). Additionally, the discovery of new antimicrobial agents to address the critical problem of increasing antimicrobial resistance has attracted the interest of many research groups.
This Special Issue aims to bring together state-of-the-art research and development contributions that address key challenges and topics related to the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of natural products. The topics of interest include:
- The extraction, purification, identification, and quantification of antioxidant and antimicrobial compounds from natural sources;
- The bioactivity and health benefits connected with natural antimicrobial and antioxidant agents;
- Novel analytical techniques alone or in combination with in vitro and in silico activity assays aimed at the rapid and effective identification of bioactive components;
- Natural antioxidants and antimicrobial agents as ingredients of food supplements, cosmeceuticals, and pharmaceuticals.
