Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Computational and mathematical biology is a widely spread integrative science which connects various issues of genetics, molecular genetics, dynamic systems, ODE, PDE, computer science and a variety of biological applications. Bioinformatics is a fascinating research area, which assists in the progression of pure mathematics, computer sciences, biology, medicine and physics. As such, the interest in this topic continues to grow by the year. Researchers interested in disseminating and sharing their new advances in this field have a great opportunity in the form of this Special Issue.

Over the last decade, a wide number of methods, algorithms and software implementations have been developed to address issues related to up-to-date computer biology and bioinformatics. The unbelievable growth of computational capacities and skills has rendered this particularly challenging. Currently, various mathematical methods are intensively applied to solve problems related to computer biology and bioinformatics.

This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for the wider exchange of ideas, opinions, state-of-the-art results and perspectives of this field.

Potential topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Statistical properties of biological macromoleculae (DNA, RNA, peptides, etc.);
  • Statistical physics of complex biological systems (from moleculae to communities and genetic systems);
  • Alignment-free methods to compare symbol sequences, with applications to computer biology and bioinformatics;
  • Anomaly detection, knowledge retrieval and smart analysis of biological sequences;
  • Time series in biological systems and its analysis;
  • Spatially distributed models of biological systems, with special attention to vast land use system analysis;
  • Non-linear and advanced statistics in computational biology and bioinformatics;
  • Specific studies in computational biology and bioinformatics;
  • Order, disorder and complex dynamics of biological systems of various level;
  • Algorithms and software in computer biology and bioinformatics;
  • Artificial networks in computer biology and bioinformatics;
  • Image processing and analysis in computer biology and bioinformatics;
  • Problems in ODE and PDE inspired by computer biology and bioinformatics;
  • Clustering and classification;
  • Equations with inheritance;
  • Mathematics meeting evolution in computer biology and bioinformatics.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
