Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Life Sciences have become central in scientific research for years now, both for their wide range of advanced applications and for their usefulness in the treatment of complex and/or rare diseases that affect mankind.

Experimentalists in Biology, and more generally in the Natural and Applied Sciences, increasingly look to the simulation methods and tools that mathematicians, statisticians and computer scientists can offer, trying to obtain in-depth information on the physical phenomena in which they are involved. To accomplish this task, the modelling aspect is confirmed as an essential step to gain insights and acquire knowledge on the phenomena considered, describe the related processes of interest and make predictions.

Contributions regarding applications of mathematics to real-life situations and, above all, to Natural and Applied Science, in particular to Computational Biology and Biotechnology, but also to Physics and Medicine, are therefore welcome. Also of interest are applications involving complex and/or high-dimensional data or dynamics arising from Applied Empirical Sciences in general. Particular consideration is given to numerical and computational treatment. Hybrid symbolic/numerical solution approaches are also of interest.

Potential contributions include — but are not limited to—the following topics:

  • Computational methods of biological and applied life science processes;
  • Deterministic and stochastic modelling for biological processes;
  • Computational approaches for multi-omics data;
  • Applications of Artificial Intelligence to Biology, Biomathematics and Biotechnology;
  • Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Imaging and Healthcare applications;
  • Mathematical modelling for Bioscience data integration;
  • Optimization methods for Computational Systems Biology;
  • Big data analysis and their numerical treatment;
  • Modeling and simulation in applied science problems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
