Dear Colleagues,
Skull base tumors have always represented a challenge due to their rarity, wide variety, and the complexity of the anatomical region from which they arise. Managing these tumors requires a multidisciplinary team comprising radiologists, skull base surgeons, pathologists, radiation oncologists, and clinical oncologists.
Advancements in diagnostic, surgical, and therapeutic approaches are gradually enhancing clinical outcomes. Improved imaging techniques facilitate early tumor detection and appropriate patient follow-up. Furthermore, advancements in both traditional and minimally invasive surgical approaches are pivotal in increasing the tumor extent of resection and patients’ quality of life. The identification of novel molecular pathways and genetic mutations during the pathological characterization of these tumors addresses adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Molecularly profiling such tumors has ushered in new opportunities for targeted therapies, promising tremendous advances in the era of personalized medicine. All these studies instill hope for improved therapeutics and the emergence of novel management paradigms.
This Special Issue, entitled “Skull Base Tumors: Current Status and Future Challenges”, aims to enrich our understanding of skull base tumors by sharing the latest advances in the clinical and pre-clinical fields. We welcome articles and reviews of innovative diagnostic, surgical, and therapeutic approaches that represent the cutting-edge and novel strategies in the management of these tumors.
